FAQs
What should I bring on a guided trip?
If you have your own climbing equipment, you are welcome to bring it. Personal climbing equipment must be inspected by a guide to determine its suitability. Otherwise, all climbing equipment will be provided by High Point. In the summer time, be prepared for hot and humid weather. Bring enough water and food for the length of your trip. Sunscreen and bug spray in the summer are recommended. Bring any layers or accessories that you will need to be comfortable for several hours outside. A medium-sized (40 liter or so) backpack to carry your personal accessories, climbing equipment, food, water, etc. is highly recommended.
What about transportation?
Typically, you will meet your guide at our Downtown facility (219 Broad St., Chattanooga, TN 37402) to get outfitted with your climbing equipment. From there, you will follow your guide to the climbing area. Guides do not transport guests in their personal vehicles. If you and your group have all their own climbing gear, we can, in some cases, meet you directly at the climbing area.
What happens if there is bad weather?
Weather in the Southeast tends to be unpredictable so we will keep a close eye on the weather as your trip date approaches. If your guide determines that the weather is unsuitable for climbing, you may choose to reschedule to another date or, if that is not an option, you will be refunded the full amount of your deposit and trip cost. As a rule, we do not climb on wet rock as it is against our risk management policy.
Is tipping a thing?
It is customary to tip climbing guides much as you would any other outdoor guide. While 20% is a general guideline, gratuity should reflect the quality of the service and experience you receive.
